A Diverse Economy

North Alabama is home to a diverse array of industry sectors. The regional economy is buoyed by the presence of the U. S. Army at Redstone Arsenal and NASA at Marshall Space Flight Center, both located in Huntsville, Madison County. Since the 1960’s these federal facilities have lead to the creation of thousands jobs in the Aerospace and Defense sector throughout the region.

North Alabama has also been at the center of the explosion of automotive industry jobs in the Southeastern U. S. Today there are over 7,400 jobs directly related to the Automotive Sector in North Alabama. Other important and growing industrial sectors include Chemicals, Distribution and Logistics, Plastics, Metal Fabrication, Food Processing, Packaging, Wood Products and, most recently, Life Sciences.
